Episode 1 — ROM Architects

For the premiere episode, the show welcomed ROM Architects and architect Juan Pablo Romero into the studio for an in-depth discussion on architecture and development in Aruba.

The conversation explored far beyond aesthetics. It focused on the realities of designing and building on an island where climate, terrain, infrastructure, permits, and long-term sustainability all play a major role in the success of a project.

One of the key topics discussed was how Aruba’s landscape directly influences architecture. From rocky terrains and elevated hillsides to parcels filled with natural boulders, not every piece of land can or should be approached in the same way. The episode highlighted how intelligent architecture starts with understanding the land itself — rather than forcing a design onto it.

The discussion also explored how environmental elements such as wind direction, sun exposure, rainfall, and natural airflow should shape the layout of a home. Juan Pablo Romero explained how room placement can dramatically affect energy efficiency and comfort. For example, placing bedrooms strategically toward the eastern side of a property can help reduce direct afternoon sun exposure, minimizing heat buildup and lowering dependency on air conditioning systems.

Another important conversation centered around permits and development realities in Aruba. The episode touched on how vision and creativity must still align with zoning regulations, infrastructure limitations, construction feasibility, and budget considerations. Listeners gained insight into the often unseen planning process behind residential and commercial developments on the island.

More than just a conversation about buildings, the episode became a reflection on how architecture influences lifestyle, community, and the future growth of Aruba itself.

A New Platform for Real Conversations

The Market Talks was created with the vision of opening more meaningful conversations around industries that directly impact life in Aruba — especially real estate, construction, design, business, and education.

Every week, the show will feature new guests and new themes ranging from appraisers and developers to interior designers, financial experts, architects, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.

Future episodes will continue exploring topics such as:

  • Real estate and investment trends
  • Interior design and lifestyle
  • Property valuation and financing
  • Urban development
  • Sustainable building
  • Infrastructure and utilities
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation in Aruba

The goal is simple: to create a platform where information, perspective, and conversation meet.
